Virtual Private Servers are delivered on our high-availability, high-performance CloudStack-based KVM platform. The platform is built on open source KVM hypervisors, combined with fast network-attached storage. A hardware failure on a hardware node will cause the Virtual Server instance to restart on a different node, minimising downtime.
Software
Leaseweb supports a number of Linux distributions, as well as various Windows and BSD operating systems on Virtual Servers, and various Control Panels.
Operating system
Leaseweb installs a basic version of the operating system of your choice, with SSH or RDP enabled for remote access. We also install some additional scripts to enable certain functionality, such as resetting your instance password. You can reset the password of your instance yourself from the Leaseweb Customer Portal. For detailed information on the availability of various versions of operating systems for Virtual Servers from Leaseweb, please refer to the article on operating systems.
Control panels
Control Panels are available for “M” package Virtual Servers or higher. This is due to the memory needs of Control Panels, which require at least 2 GB of RAM. Please note that not all control panels are compatible with all operating systems; some combinations are therefore excluded. The available combinations can be found on our product configuration page under the software header. For more information, please refer to the article on control panels.
Network
All virtual servers are connected to our state-of-the-art network. For more information about network, please visit the Leaseweb website.
Data traffic
Leaseweb offers the following data traffic packages (free of cost) based on the virtual server pack you select:
Server Pack | Data Traffic (Included) |
---|---|
gp micro | 4 TB |
gp xsmall | 6 TB |
gp small | 8 TB |
gp medium | 8 TB |
gp large | 10 TB |
gp xlarge | 10 TB |
gp 2xlarge | 15 TB |
On top of the free data traffic package, it is possible to configure additional data traffic for your virtual server during the checkout process.
Traffic restrictions
We apply some traffic restrictions to provide you with a better virtual server network isolation, such as:
- blocking traffic from IP addresses not belonging to the virtual server
- blocking broadcast/multicast traffic types between virtual servers in the same subnet
Firewall
Leaseweb offers free Basic Firewall functionality as a feature for virtual servers to provide basic filtering functionality. For more information on free Basic Firewalls, refer to the article on Firewall.
IP addresses
Virtual servers get 1 public IPv4 address. You cannot obtain additional IPv4 addresses for Virtual Servers. For more information, refer to the article on IP addresses. It is possible to request IPv6 addresses for free, we assign a /112. For information about obtaining IPv6 addresses for your virtual server, refer to the article on IPv6.
Network types
Leaseweb offers Volume network for your virtual servers. The Volume network offers one or more default Tier1 transit providers and selected peering connections. Volume network is engineered to provide a cost-efficient solution to high bandwidth needs. For more information on the network types and the network type availability matrix, refer to the article on network types.
Service Level Agreement (SLA)
To keep your server connected 24/7, Leaseweb’s Basic Service Level Agreement is provided at no additional charge. For additional support, there are multiple levels of SLAs. For further information, refer to the article on Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Upgrades and downgrades for VPS
In the Customer Portal, you can request an upgrade for the Virtual Private Server by clicking the Upgrade button next to your Server Type (which is displayed under Technical details under the Server Information tab). Please be aware to select the correct entity the VPS is running in.
Upgrade/downgrade matrix:
Service | Upgrade | Downgrade |
---|---|---|
Virtual Private Server | Yes | ❌ |
Downgrading is currently not supported because it is technically not possible to reduce your VPS volume. In case you want a smaller VPS, you will need to order a new one and cancel the existing contract.
Virtual Private Server APIs
The Virtual Private Server APIs provide you with the ability to control each virtual server that you have at Leaseweb. Using APIs, you will be able to list your virtual servers, retrieve information, power on and off, reboot, reinstall, and retrieve administrative information from all of your virtual servers.
