Metering and Billing

Metering and Billing

Bandwidth and Data Traffic Usage

Leaseweb offers multiple billing models to match a wide range of application needs.

Whether you’re delivering video streaming, powering online games, running SaaS platforms, or managing backup and CDN workloads, we provide flexible network billing options designed for your specific usage patterns.

We offer the following models:

Metered Data Traffic

Ideal for predictable or moderate usage, billed per GB based on actual consumption.

Unmetered (Flat Fee)

Best for consistent, high-throughput workloads where unlimited data traffic is preferred for a fixed monthly cost.

Burstable (95th Percentile)

Suited for bursty or variable workloads, such as streaming events or gaming platforms, allowing traffic spikes without incurring extra costs.

Bandwidth / Data Traffic Aggregation

Combine traffic usage across multiple servers or services under a single commitment, maximising efficiency and reducing overage risks.

Each option is designed to provide cost control, performance, and flexibility, depending on your application and business requirements.

Metered Data Traffic

Metered servers come with a fixed amount of bandwidth each month, measured in gigabytes (GB). Our plans offer between 30TB and 250TB of monthly data transfer. If you go over the included amount, additional usage is billed separately. Metered servers are available with 100Mbps, 1Gbps, or 10Gbps port options.

Data traffic surcharges

Surcharges for Data traffic billing are being calculated at the end of each month based on the surcharge fee (per GB) agreed upon in the order form. This surcharge figure depends upon the network performance type (Volume or Premium) and the Data traffic Commitment.

Unmetered (Flat Fee)

Unmetered servers don’t come with a set GB limit per month—instead, they’re assigned a specific port speed. We offer 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 10Gbps and 25Gbps unmetered ports. With these plans, you can use as much bandwidth as your port allows, with no overage charges.

For reference, if fully utilized 24/7, a:

  • 100Mbps port can transfer up to ~33TB/month
  • 1Gbps port can transfer up to ~330TB/month

Burstable (95th Percentile)

95th percentile bandwidth billing is a popular and cost-effective way to measure data transfer. With this model, bandwidth usage is recorded every 5 minutes throughout the month. At the end of the billing cycle, the top 5% of usage spikes are discarded, and the next highest value is used to determine your billable rate.

This allows for occasional traffic bursts without added costs, making it ideal for businesses with unpredictable or variable usage patterns. It offers flexibility while protecting you from charges caused by brief traffic surges.

95th percentile billing is available on various port speeds — including 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 10Gbps and 25Gbps — mainly offered with Dedicated Servers and colocation services.

Bandwidth / Data Traffic Aggregation

Bandwidth or Datatraffic aggregation allows combining traffic across multiple servers:

  • Overages are calculated based on total usage vs. total allocated bandwidth
  • Reduces surcharge risk for customers managing multiple servers

Example:
5 servers each with 2000 GB = 10,000 GB total allocation.
If one server uses 3000 GB and others use 1500 GB each, no surcharge is applied (total usage = 9000 GB).

Bandwidth or Data Traffic aggregation is not available for high-bandwidth servers or in combination with other discounts/promotions. Contact our Sales team to learn more, if you are interested in Bandwidth aggregation.

Metering and Billing - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the price for a gigabyte of exceeding traffic?

The surcharge figure depends upon the network performance type (Volume or Premium) and the Data traffic Commitment.

  • Does incoming traffic count towards quota?

This depends on the product you are using

For all products except Public Cloud, VPS and Object Storage both incoming and outgoing traffic are counted. Metered data traffic billing is very straightforward and the most common method in use at Leaseweb – we measure each GB of data transfer to and from your server.

Public Cloud, VPS and Object Storage do not charge incoming (INGRESS) traffic.
