Attaching ISO to Virtual Console – iDRAC 8

Attaching an .ISO to your system can be useful for installing tools, booting into a live Operating System, or installing a new Operating System. Below are the steps for mounting an .ISO and booting to it with an Dell iDRAC 8 IPMI.

To access your iDRAC IPMI, you will need to first connect to the Leaseweb Remote Management VPN, following these instructions: here

You can then login to your IPMI by referencing the passwords found in the instructions here.

  1. Begin by logging in to your Remote Management web page of your server, and selecting Launch

  2. Next, you will need to follow a series of prompts to launch the console, depending on what browser and Operating System you are using, the prompts might be slightly different.

  3. Once you see a screen with your server’s Operating System view.

  4. Select the Virtual Media menu, then select Connect Virtual Media
  5. The console should show the Operating System recognizing the Virtual Device

  6. Select Map CD/DVD (Java console version allows support for connecting as a virtual USB as well)

  7. You will then be prompted to select the drive image/ISO to mount, select Browse

  8. The image file should then appear, select Map Device

  9. Then select the device to boot in the next server reboot by selecting the Next Boot menu, then Virtual CD/DVD/ISO

You will then be warned that this device will be the next boot device until the setting is changed32669756

  1. Reboot the server by selecting the Power menu, then Reset System (warm reboot)

When you close the virtual console, you will be warned that the drive will be automatically unmapped.32669758
