Leaseweb has a zero-tolerance policy regarding unsolicited bulk email (UBE) and unsolicited commercial email (UCE)(commonly referred to as ‘spam’), which applies to all Leaseweb customers, clients of customers, and/or associated subcontractors.
Leaseweb defines spam as any broadcast or commercial email sent to recipients who have not explicitly opted in to receive such communications. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Marketing and promotional advertisements.
- Digital surveys, newsletters, and informational bulletins.
- Third-party marketing content or scripts.
- Promotional links, sales announcements, and auction-related communications.
Compliance Requirements for Authorized Promotional Email
Requirements vary depending on the deployment platform of your services.
Shared Web Hosting
All marketing and promotional communications sent through our Shared Web Hosting platform are subject to applicable Dutch regulatory law.
Your distribution configurations must comply with the following core requirements:
- Functional opt-out: Every message must include a clear and working unsubscribe option that lets recipients opt out immediately.
- Confirmed double opt-in: You must retain a confirmed opt-in, also known as ‘double opt-in’, for every email address included in your list.
Double Opt-In Process
- The potential recipient submits their email address to subscribe to a mailing list
- An automated email containing a unique verification URL is delivered to that specific address.
- The potential recipient needs to confirm their subscription through the verification URL
All outgoing mail sent from Leaseweb’s Shared Web Hosting platform is queued and scanned to detect and block spam runs quickly. If you plan to send more than 5000 emails at once from a Shared Web Hosting product, you are required to inform Leaseweb of this in advance.
Dedicated and Virtual Private Servers
If you manage a Dedicated Server or VPS instance, your communications must comply with both the Leaseweb Spam Policy and the local legal framework belonging to the country where that physical host server resides.
Actions taken when Leaseweb receives spam notifications
Leaseweb will take appropriate action upon receipt of spam abuse notifications to protect its network. Read more about how to handle abuse notification here.
